Training ROI formula and assumptions
The calculator estimates total cost as direct learning fees plus paid participant time and other implementation costs. Attributed benefit is the estimated annual benefit multiplied by the percentage connected to training. ROI is calculated as (attributed benefit - total cost) / total cost x 100.
Use conservative inputs and do not count the same benefit twice. For a stronger evaluation, record a baseline, define the observation period and compare trained and untrained groups where feasible.

How is training ROI calculated?
A common estimate is net benefit divided by total training cost, multiplied by 100. Net benefit is the monetized annual benefit attributable to training minus the complete cost of the initiative.
Which costs should be included?
Include tuition or vendor fees, paid learning time, administration, technology, travel where relevant and the opportunity cost of time away from normal work.
Is a positive estimate proof that training caused the result?
No. It is a planning estimate. A stronger evaluation compares a baseline with post-training performance and separates training effects from seasonality, process changes and other investments.
