Applied capstone

Advise Harborlight’s service-delivery decision.

Choose the course methods relevant to the evidence and prepare one coherent recommendation for the authorized client leader.

The situation

Harborlight has completed a limited workflow pilot before seasonal demand increases. Leaders must decide whether to scale the changes, revise them for selected regions, continue testing, or stop. The supplied evidence includes service data, stakeholder findings, cost assumptions, control constraints, and unresolved regional differences.

Your task

Recommend the next course of action. Compare realistic alternatives, explain the evidence and material limitations, and make implementation conditions, ownership, measures, and the review point visible.

Executive Recommendation PackageOne principal deliverable that connects the recommendation to evidence, alternatives, risks, implementation conditions, measures, and an authorized decision.

Frequently asked questions

Open the sections that matter to you, including delivery format, AI-supported practice and the evidence used to design the curriculum.

Who is this management consulting course for?

The course is designed for aspiring consultants, business analysts moving into advisory work, internal transformation professionals, and project or workstream practitioners who need a practical consulting workflow. It starts with a broad client question and builds toward evidence, options, a recommendation, and an implementation handoff.

How does the course work?

The course is online and self-paced, with four modules, 20 applied lessons, and one capstone. Each lesson combines explanation, a practical method, a connected fictional case, a blank template, and a completed example. Learners can work through the material over up to one month at a pace that suits their practice.

How is AI used in the practical work?

Every lesson includes a prompt to draft or improve its exact consulting work product and a separate prompt to challenge the result. Learners compare suggestions with supplied evidence, protect client information, record uncertainty, and retain human review and decision authority.

What evidence supports the curriculum?

The curriculum was derived from a purposive study of 100 directly verified U.S. advisory vacancies and a separate 15-source review of current changes in consulting work. The vacancy counts describe that selected sample rather than national prevalence. The research report also has an open Zenodo DOI record.

What practical work will I complete?

You will practise an engagement authority brief, problem structure, evidence and discovery plans, qualitative and quantitative analyses, an operating-model assessment, business case, option comparison, recommendation memo, executive briefing, decision record, workstream controls, implementation handoff, quality reviews, and a consultant operating playbook.

What does the applied capstone involve?

You will advise Harborlight on a service-delivery decision using a supplied evidence set. The principal deliverable is one Executive Recommendation Package that states the decision, compares alternatives, explains evidence and limitations, and defines implementation conditions, owners, measures, and a review point.

What certificate and access will I receive?

After successful enrollment, you receive access to the MTF learning platform. Completing the required learning activities provides the MTF Institute course-completion certificate for Professional Certificate in Management Consulting.
