Professional Certificate in Hotel Operations Management
Learn to coordinate the hotel operating day from reservation integrity and pre-arrival preparation through front-office control, room readiness, guest recovery and next-shift review. This applied program connects the teams and decisions behind a reliable guest stay, helping you turn changing operational information into clear priorities, responsible handoffs and measurable service action.
Across 20 substantial lessons, one required on-shift workshop and a separate applied capstone, you will work with a connected fictional city-hotel case and produce authentic professional artifacts. The emphasis is practical rooms-led operations: truthful guest communication, timely ownership, safe escalation, checked calculations and coordinated execution across reservations, front office, housekeeping, maintenance and management.
What you will be able to do
By the end of the program, you will be able to:
- map a hotel's operating profile, responsibility boundaries and cross-department handoffs;
- review reservation quality, changes and exceptions before they become arrival problems;
- build a seven-day arrivals, departures and occupancy control view;
- reason through room-inventory pressure and document a bounded overbooking decision;
- prepare arrivals, special requests and guest communications from verified facts;
- build a front-office shift brief that preserves owners, due times and open decisions;
- coordinate registration, identity-control handoffs, room assignment and readiness;
- manage folio discrepancies, departure exceptions and night-audit handover records;
- reconcile room status across front office, housekeeping and maintenance;
- prioritize room turnaround and escalate out-of-order inventory clearly;
- connect demand and workload to staffing choices and on-shift team briefings;
- keep guest requests owned across people and shifts;
- coordinate accessibility arrangements and recover service failures with follow-up;
- calculate and interpret occupancy, ADR and RevPAR alongside service signals; and
- convert feedback and daily operating evidence into a next-shift action plan.
Who this course is for
This program is designed for aspiring and early-career hotel operations professionals, front-office agents and supervisors, reservations colleagues, rooms coordinators, guest-services professionals and hospitality employees moving toward broader operating responsibility. It is also useful for housekeeping, maintenance and commercial colleagues who want to understand how their handoffs affect the whole hotel operating cycle.
No previous management experience or proprietary property-management-system knowledge is required. Guided practice uses a fully supplied fictional independent hotel, so you can complete the operating scenarios without live guest data, workplace access or confidential systems.
Practical learning experience
Every lesson develops one workplace decision and one reusable professional artifact. Each includes readable theory, a blank template, a completed fictional example, guided practice, model-agnostic AI prompts, a critic pass and explicit human verification.
The Riverside Hotel case follows one rooms-led operating cycle through reservations, arrivals, room turns, in-stay requests, departures, guest recovery, business-date close and next-shift planning. After Lesson 14, a required workshop develops an On-Shift Briefing and Coaching Record that translates an approved operational change into clear roles, understanding checks and fact-based coaching.

Applied capstone
The capstone places you in Riverside Hotel on a high-occupancy operating day with concentrated arrivals, changing room readiness, an accessibility arrangement, an active service-recovery case, staffing constraints and defined performance measures.
You will create one Hotel Operating-Day Action Plan. It must select priorities, assign one current owner and time to each action, coordinate handoffs and guest updates, apply the supplied calculation convention, and preserve decisions that require responsible human approval.
How the course works
The course is 100% online and self-paced. Plan approximately five to seven hours for each module, including artifact practice, plus time for the required team workshop and four to six hours for the applied capstone. A typical learner can expect about 24 to 36 hours of focused work and can complete the course within one month.
Manual completion controls provide a clear route through the 20 lessons, workshop, capstone and certificate section. The guided hotel case is fully supplied, while workplace-transfer tasks help you adapt the method to authorized information and your employer's current procedures.
AI-supported practice
Each lesson contains a primary prompt that can draft the lesson's exact artifact from authorized inputs, followed by a separate critic prompt and a human verification workflow. AI may organise supplied facts, review wording, recalculate visible values and challenge a provisional draft. You keep control of room-readiness confirmation, guest promises, identity and payment decisions, maintenance escalation, staffing approval, rates, compensation and final communication.
The learner remains accountable for facts, calculations, assigned responsibility, approval boundaries and follow-up. Fictional, aggregate or properly de-identified information supports safe practice while preserving the discipline expected in live hotel operations.
Certificate
Complete the learning activities, required workshop and applied capstone to receive the MTF Institute professional course-completion certificate for Professional Certificate in Hotel Operations Management.
