Professional Certificate in E-commerce Operations

Build the operating control layer that connects what customers see online with what retail, fulfilment, logistics and service teams can actually deliver. This applied program is designed for the fast-growing space between retail operations, logistics and digital commerce.

Across 20 substantial lessons, you will work with one connected fictional retailer and produce practical artifacts used to prepare products and channels, control orders, coordinate fulfilment and returns, run marketplaces, manage incidents and turn operating evidence into focused improvement. You will finish with an integrated capstone that demonstrates how an e-commerce operations professional moves from fragmented signals to responsible action.

What you will be able to do

By the end of the program, you will be able to:

  • map the complete product-to-return operating cycle and clarify cross-functional handoffs;
  • prepare product information for sale and implement approved price and promotion settings;
  • reconcile sellable availability without confusing system, reserved and physical quantities;
  • control daily order queues and triage exceptions with consistent ageing and priority rules;
  • prepare usable fulfilment handoffs and protect evidence-based delivery promises;
  • coordinate customer updates, return requests and return-to-stock closure;
  • run a disciplined marketplace routine and respond factually to channel incidents;
  • prepare trigger-based peak-trading plans that connect capacity and customer promises;
  • define useful metrics, build a compact dashboard and investigate service-level variance; and
  • run a bounded improvement test and lead a decision-ready weekly operating review.

Who this course is for

This program is designed for aspiring and early-career e-commerce operations professionals, digital commerce coordinators, order management specialists and marketplace operations specialists. It is also useful for people in retail, fulfilment, logistics or customer service who understand one part of the customer journey and now need a structured way to coordinate the whole digital order cycle.

Practical learning experience

Every lesson develops one authentic operational decision and one reusable workplace artifact. Guided Riverlight Home cases, blank templates, completed fictional examples, calculations, responsible AI exercises, human verification and transfer tasks move the learner from explanation to practice.

The sequence follows the work itself. You first prepare products, commercial settings, channels and availability. You then control orders, exceptions, fulfilment handoffs, delivery promises and customer updates. The third module closes returns, coordinates marketplace routines and prepares for incidents and peak trade. The final module turns records into measures, dashboards, variance diagnosis, improvement tests and a weekly operating rhythm.

Applied capstone

The capstone places you in Riverlight Home, a fictional growing retailer selling through its webstore and approved marketplaces while preparing a new product range and promotion. Catalogue, availability, order, fulfilment, delivery, return and marketplace signals require one coherent operating response.

You will create one E-commerce Operations Control and Improvement Plan. The document selects no more than three priorities, distinguishes checked facts from assumptions and hypotheses, assigns feasible actions and handoffs, defines measurable escalation triggers and sets review decisions after seven, fourteen and thirty days.

How the course works

The course is 100% online and self-paced. It can be completed within one month, depending on your study pace and the depth of practical assignments. Manual completion controls provide a clear route through twenty lessons, the applied capstone and the certificate section.

AI-supported practice

Selected activities show how a vendor-neutral AI assistant can organise synthetic or authorised inputs, check calculations, compare bounded options and challenge a draft. Prompts preserve unknowns, prohibit personal customer data and keep judgement with the learner. AI does not invent causes, approve commercial or inventory changes, decide payment or refund outcomes, make product-safety or legal conclusions, alter live systems or accept accountability.
