Dr. Lúcia de Fátima Silva Piedade has worked in aviation for 36 years, including 20 years as an Operations Supervisor at Lisbon Airport. Her operational career is supported by an interdisciplinary academic background spanning architecture, aeronautical management, organizational and crisis communication, air-transport management and aerospace sciences.

She completed a postdoctorate in Aerospace Sciences, a PhD in Communication Sciences focused on organizational and crisis communication, a master degree in Aeronautical Management and an MBA in Air Transport Management and Civil Aviation. She is also a qualified architect.

Her research affiliations include the Center for Research in Applied Communication, Culture and New Technologies (CICANT) and CEGIST, the Centre for Management Studies at Instituto Superior Técnico. She has also served on the board of Global Goodwill Ambassadors Portugal.

Teaching at MTF

Connecting knowledge with professional practice

She lectures at Universidade Lusófona and Universidade Atlântica and contributes to research through CICANT and CEGIST at Instituto Superior Técnico.

Her teaching brings together airport operations, safety-critical communication, aeronautical management and organizational resilience. This combination allows learners to examine how technical systems, human communication and management decisions interact in operational environments.
