## Direct answer

Executive careers are defined less by job-title prestige than by the decisions a person can own. General managers integrate the enterprise; commercial leaders build the revenue system; operations leaders make delivery reliable; digital leaders redesign value creation; and strategic HR leaders build organizational capability.

This hub maps those responsibilities to observable work evidence and relevant learning paths.

## Evidence is more useful than a title

A professional-development plan should produce evidence that another person can inspect: a decision memo, financial model, operating diagnosis, go-to-market design, transformation roadmap, workforce plan or capstone defense. A title alone does not show how a decision was reached.

## Shared capabilities across executive roles

The role pages differ, but five capabilities recur:

1. turning uncertain information into a structured decision;
2. connecting functional choices with financial and customer consequences;
3. communicating clearly to stakeholders with different incentives;
4. designing an operating system rather than relying on personal heroics;
5. using AI productively while preserving evidence, privacy and accountability.

## Plan a learning route

Use the private [management skills assessment](/tools/management-skills-assessment/) to identify a practical gap. Compare the six focused [professional certificates](/programs/) or study the integrated [Advanced Executive Program](/programs/advanced-executive-management-business-administration/) when the goal is cross-functional executive capability.
