## Professional Certificate in Hotel Revenue Management

Forecast hotel demand, compare room rates and business mix, evaluate distribution channels, and bring evidence-backed recommendations into revenue meetings.

## Who this course is for

Aspiring hotel revenue managers, analysts and adjacent Reservations, Distribution, Sales and commercial professionals can use the course to make hotel evidence and decision handoffs clearer.

## What you will be able to do

Given a hotel's room, booking and channel facts and its stated decision rights, prepare a coherent forecast and commercial recommendation, route it to the right owner, and define how the result will be checked.

## Curriculum

### Module 1: Read the hotel’s revenue signals

A revenue decision can look precise while resting on the wrong date, room type or booking count. Start with the data a hotel actually has: rooms on the books, recent pickup, cancellations and the rates attached to those reservations. This module helps you check the numbers before you rely on them.

1. **Check where your numbers came from** — Create a metric-lineage register.
2. **Read daily pickup and booking pace** — Create a daily pickup exception brief.
3. **Test a search signal against bookings** — Create a search-to-booking validation note.
4. **Explain ADR and RevPAR changes** — Create an ADR-RevPAR performance bridge.
5. **Build a segment-based room forecast** — Create a segment forecast worksheet.

### Module 2: Turn forecasts into controlled pricing choices

A forecast is useful when it changes a choice. Before recommending a new rate or restriction, you need to explain what shifted, compare alternatives and know who is allowed to decide. A confident recommendation with no clear decision owner can cause costly execution errors.

6. **Explain a forecast revision** — Create a forecast revision memo.
7. **Know who can decide and when to escalate** — Create a decision-rights and escalation map.
8. **Compare rates with the market** — Create a competitive rate-position analysis.
9. **Recommend a room rate** — Create a rate recommendation card.
10. **Assess a stay restriction** — Create a restriction decision log.

### Module 3: Choose business mix and keep channels accurate

A hotel can fill rooms and still choose the wrong business. A group request may displace stronger transient demand; a channel may deliver volume at a high cost; a wrong room mapping may show inventory that cannot be booked. These are different problems and need different analyses.

11. **Assess a group request** — Create a group displacement worksheet.
12. **Choose a business mix** — Create a segment-mix trade-off brief.
13. **Compare channel contribution** — Create a channel contribution comparison.
14. **Investigate a rate or room mismatch** — Create a rate-availability mapping audit.
15. **Route a distribution correction** — Create a distribution correction handoff.

### Module 4: Run the commercial review and follow through

A good analysis can still fail if the right person never sees it or no one checks the result. A hotel revenue meeting is where a team compares what happened, what is likely to happen next and which choices need an owner. The meeting does not make every participant an approver.

16. **Prepare a revenue meeting** — Create a commercial review evidence pack.
17. **Record decisions and owners** — Create a meeting decision-and-owner log.
18. **Review the month-end result** — Create a monthly forecast-variance review.
19. **Set out annual budget assumptions** — Create an annual rooms-budget assumption sheet.
20. **Hand off an integrated revenue action** — Create an integrated revenue action handoff plan.

## Applied capstone

A fictional 96-room lakeside hotel has a two-night music-festival group request. Friday and Saturday have different rooms already booked and uncertain future transient demand. The group offers a known room rate; accepting it could displace higher-contribution bookings on one or both nights.

Prepare one event-weekend group revenue recommendation memo for the Sales Director and General Manager. Compare the two nights separately, show the contribution and inventory effect, test a lower-demand case, identify missing contract facts and state when the recommendation should be revisited.

## How the course works

Study online at your own pace. Each lesson teaches a bounded method through a hotel case, a blank work product, a completed example, AI-supported practice and a human quality check. The capstone asks for one event-weekend group revenue recommendation memo.

## Certificate

Completing the course provides an MTF Institute professional course-completion certificate for Professional Certificate in Hotel Revenue Management.

## Evidence behind the course

The curriculum uses the MTF Institute study of 65 current U.S. hotel revenue-management openings (https://mtfinstitute.com/insights/us-hotel-revenue-manager-role-requirements-65-openings-2026/) and a separate current-changes analysis (https://mtfinstitute.com/insights/hotel-revenue-management-2026-forecast-booking-distribution-changes/). ## Frequently asked questions

### Who is this hotel revenue management course for?

The course is for aspiring hotel revenue managers, analysts and adjacent Reservations, Distribution, Sales and commercial professionals who want a repeatable way to evaluate demand and explain revenue choices.

### How does the course work?

Study online at your own pace. The course has 20 applied lessons in four modules and one event-weekend capstone. Each lesson teaches a bounded method, works through hotel facts and gives you a practical work product to complete. Study time is up to 1 month.

### How is AI used in practical work?

The lessons provide model-agnostic prompts for drafting and critiquing a defined work product from permitted information. Learners check source facts, calculations, privacy, decision authority and guest-facing effects before relying on an output.

### What evidence supports the curriculum?

The course uses MTF Institute's study of 65 current U.S. hotel revenue-management openings and a separate review of current forecasting, pricing and distribution changes. The job postings form a purposive sample rather than a nationwide estimate. Read the role study at https://mtfinstitute.com/insights/us-hotel-revenue-manager-role-requirements-65-openings-2026/ and the current-changes article at https://mtfinstitute.com/insights/hotel-revenue-management-2026-forecast-booking-distribution-changes/
