## Professional Certificate in Facilities Management

Learn to coordinate the operating cycle that connects workplace services, physical assets, planned and reactive maintenance, approved providers, incidents, occupied space and service performance. This applied program develops the practical judgement needed to turn requests and operational evidence into clear priorities, responsible handoffs, reliable communication and reviewable action.

Across 20 substantial lessons and a separate applied capstone, you will work with the connected fictional workplace of Brightwork Advisory and produce 20 primary and six supporting professional artifacts. The course stays firmly within the facilities role: it prepares you to coordinate work and evidence without diagnosing faults, directing technical repairs, authorising access, signing off safety or taking over incident command.

## What you will be able to do

By the end of the program, you will be able to:

- define facilities scope, service responsibilities and specialist handoffs;
- receive and prioritise workplace-service requests using supplied criteria;
- communicate verified status and recover a poor service experience;
- build useful physical-asset and asset-criticality records;
- plan the facilities week around events, demand and open work;
- create planned-maintenance schedules from approved requirements;
- open clear reactive work orders without diagnosing causes;
- review maintenance backlog, resource load and completion evidence;
- coordinate contractors in an occupied workplace;
- plan cleaning, reception, mail and workplace-support delivery;
- prepare approved providers for mobilisation and service handoffs;
- coordinate service recovery across provider dependencies;
- support facilities incidents under a named incident lead;
- use limited space data proportionately and plan an approved internal move;
- define service-performance measures and explain facilities cost variance;
- combine workplace feedback with service evidence;
- plan practical resource-efficiency improvements; and
- lead a facilities review and focused 90-day improvement plan.

## Who this course is for

This program is designed for aspiring and newly appointed facilities managers, workplace coordinators, facilities assistants, maintenance administrators and adjacent operations professionals. It is also useful for people moving from office administration, hospitality, customer service or procurement support into internal workplace operations.

No previous facilities-management experience or knowledge of a particular software platform is required. Guided practice uses fully supplied fictional information, so you can complete the scenarios without live employee data, workplace access, confidential provider records or specialist engineering knowledge.

## Practical learning experience

Every lesson develops one workplace decision and one reusable professional artifact. Lessons include substantial theory, a seven-step operating method, blank templates, completed fictional examples, practice, model-agnostic AI prompts, a critic pass and explicit human verification.

The connected case follows Brightwork Advisory, a fictional 420-person professional-services organisation with a busy office workplace. Service requests, asset information, maintenance schedules, providers, events, incidents, space observations, costs and management reviews build progressively across the course.

## Applied capstone

The capstone places you at Brightwork Advisory after water is reported outside two meeting rooms three days before a 46-guest client event and one week before an approved internal move. The source pack supplies workplace facts, current requests, open work, provider information, service evidence, space observations, cost data, communication deadlines and named decision routes.

You will create one **Workplace Service Stabilisation Plan** for the next ten working days. It coordinates incident support, maintenance, contractors, cleaning, reception, room support, temporary space, communication, cost and service-restoration measures while preserving the authority of technical, safety, access, incident, financial and business owners.

## How the course works

The course is 100% online and self-paced. Plan approximately five to seven hours for each module, including artifact practice, plus four to six hours for the applied capstone. A typical learner can expect about 24 to 36 hours of focused work and can complete the course within one month.

Manual completion controls provide a clear route through the 20 lessons, capstone and certificate section. The fictional case is fully supplied, while workplace-transfer tasks help you adapt each method to authorised information and your employer's current procedures.

## AI-supported practice

Each lesson contains a primary prompt that can draft the lesson's exact artifact from authorised inputs, followed by a separate critic prompt and a human verification workflow. AI may organise supplied facts, review neutral wording, compare stated inputs, recalculate visible values and challenge a provisional draft.

You retain control of service communication, access permission, work priority, provider scope, spending approval, incident escalation, specialist decisions and final records. Fictional, aggregate or properly de-identified information supports safe practice.

- [U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics occupational profile](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/management/administrative-services-managers.htm)

The curriculum was audited against 132 current facilities-management vacancy observations. In the current U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics profile, 444,800 jobs in 2025 and 36,100 average annual openings for 2025–35 refer to the combined category of administrative services and facilities managers. Facilities managers alone accounted for 165,900 jobs in 2025. These figures describe the U.S. occupation; they do not predict course demand or an individual learner's employment outcome.
