## Professional Certificate in DevOps Engineering

Follow a software change from a reviewed request to a known artifact, a controlled deployment and a useful feedback signal. This online, self-paced certificate gives you a practical way to work with source changes, CI/CD workflows, build and test evidence, runtime prerequisites, release decisions and recovery handoffs. The course is built around bounded tasks and records that another engineer can inspect.

## Who this course is for

This course is designed for people beginning DevOps engineering, software developers moving into delivery work, build or release engineers, and platform or site reliability practitioners who want a clearer source-to-feedback method. You can begin with the supplied cases and adapt the methods to your own approved systems and permissions. Each task makes the input, decision owner and expected handoff visible.

The separate Role Starter Pack includes a Model Job Description, an ATS-friendly Resume Template and a Model Role SOP/Operating Playbook. Use them to understand the work described in a role, present only truthful experience and follow an operating sequence with clear decision and handoff points.

## What you will be able to do

You will learn to trace a change through its delivery path, review a workflow trigger and permission change, automate a repeatable task, interpret build and test evidence, and identify the exact artifact intended for deployment. You will also check infrastructure and runtime readiness, observe a staged deployment, compare signal paths, prepare a recovery action and explain an operational decision to its owner. The work culminates in one evidence-based release recommendation.

The course treats an observed result differently from a planned test, a passing earlier run or an unverified assumption. That distinction helps you make a useful recommendation without claiming authority you do not have. AI is available as a drafting and checking aid in each lesson; you verify its suggestions against the supplied records and keep release, security and service decisions with the named people.

## Curriculum

**Module 1 — Understand the Software Delivery Path.** Start with a change request, map who owns the source, workflow, artifact, environment and feedback signal, and make a small delivery change that someone else can review. The lessons cover source review, automation, build and test stages, and artifact identity.

**Module 2 — Engineer Repeatable Delivery.** Configure an inspectable pipeline, diagnose failed runs, examine a current-run security gate, test a bounded infrastructure change and check whether a target service is ready. You will practise reading actual output before promoting a result.

**Module 3 — Deploy, Observe and Recover.** Prepare a measurable staged release plan, execute a bounded staging deployment, make a release recommendation, validate a signal path and rehearse rollback against a local state fixture. The evidence and decision owner stay explicit throughout.

**Module 4 — Operate and Improve the Delivery Service.** Diagnose a post-event delivery problem, review gate outcomes, test an improvement on a small sample, write one operator handoff runbook and assess how the work maps to role expectations and progression.

## How the course works

The twenty lessons use connected fictional cases and one primary work product each. You receive the relevant inputs, an ordered method, a blank artifact and a completed example, followed by a practice task, an AI drafting prompt and a separate critic prompt. A quality check helps you tell whether the record is usable by a colleague, and a transfer task asks what would change in another service or delivery system.

The applied capstone gives you a staged search-service release with conflicting artifact and health observations. Your single principal deliverable is a Release recommendation brief for the named release approver. It separates verified facts from uncertainty, compares the available next actions and identifies what needs an owner decision. You can work through the course in up to one month, according to your study pace and practical assignments.

## Certificate

The course includes an MTF Institute professional course-completion certificate titled Professional Certificate in DevOps Engineering. The learning platform provides the lessons, applied capstone and completion controls. The separate Student ID activity uses the Institute's shared Student ID template.

## Evidence behind the course

The curriculum draws on a structured study of 106 U.S.-eligible DevOps-related vacancy observations from October 2026 and an independent review of changes in workflow inputs, artifacts, deployment feedback and telemetry. The published research explains its collection method and limits. Those sources informed the role boundaries and capabilities practised here; the lessons then turn them into specific actions and inspectable records.

## Start the course

Review the modules and sample the methods that match your current work. Begin with the delivery-path map, then move through review, pipeline evidence, controlled rollout and operational handoff. The course is online and self-paced, with a one-time price of €10 including applicable taxes. Enroll from the secure section on this page.

## Frequently asked questions

### Who is this DevOps Engineering course for?

It is designed for beginning DevOps engineers, software developers moving into delivery work, build or release engineers, and platform or SRE practitioners who want a clear source-to-feedback method. The cases start with bounded tasks and make local decision owners explicit.

### What will I learn to do?

You will map a delivery path, review and configure CI/CD workflows, verify build and test results, trace artifacts, assess deployment prerequisites, observe a staged rollout, diagnose failures and hand off recovery or release decisions with evidence.

### What practical work will I complete?

Each of the twenty lessons produces one usable work product, including a workflow review, artifact identity record, runtime readiness checklist, release decision brief, signal-path validation record and operator handoff runbook. The applied case asks for one Release recommendation brief.

### Do I need to use one specific cloud or CI platform?

The course uses representative tools to show transferable checks: what source ran, which tests executed, which artifact moved, what the target reported and what signal reached the decision point. Apply the method with the systems and approved permissions in your own environment.

### How is AI used in the lessons?

Each lesson offers a copyable drafting prompt, a separate critic prompt and a complete worked context. You check the draft against the supplied records, test actual system behavior where the task calls for it, and keep approvals with the responsible people.

### What evidence informs the curriculum?

The course connects a structured study of 106 U.S.-eligible DevOps-related requisitions observed on 14 October 2026 with an independent review of recent workflow, artifact, deployment-feedback and telemetry changes. The research and trend publications explain their sources and limits.

### What is the applied capstone?

You assess a staged search-service release with conflicting artifact and health observations. You prepare one Release recommendation brief that separates verified facts, uncertainty, options and a proposed next action for the named release approver.
