## Abstract

This technical report examines 102 unique U.S. biotechnology-related requisitions that displayed an individual application action when checked on 10 October 2026. It describes the work assigned in those postings, the outputs named, and the specialist interfaces that shape management decisions. The 102 posts form a purposive, point-in-time sample, not a measure of national hiring prevalence. They span program and project management (31), clinical operations (22), strategy and commercial work (16), business development and alliances (14), regulatory affairs (9), product management (8), quality operations (1), and associate project support (1). These are separate career strata.

The strongest cross-stratum pattern is the need to turn work into coordinated plans, handoffs, and decision-ready records, but the deliverables differ materially by function. Integrated planning was explicitly assigned in 71 of the 102 posts; operational risk or issue management in 52; cross-functional alignment in 75; and stakeholder communication in 72. An operational plan or schedule was an assigned output in 44, while a commercial plan or account map was an assigned output in eight. A product roadmap or technical requirement appeared as an assigned output in ten; a regulatory submission document in eight. These counts describe statements in the selected posts and do not mean that unstated work is absent.

The sampled roles were weighted toward experienced posts: 43 titles were at director level, 11 executive, 14 senior manager, 29 manager or lead, and five were other, mixed, associate, or unspecified. No direct healthcare investment analyst or entrepreneur vacancy stratum was admitted. Valuation or partnership responsibilities inside other roles cannot be converted into an investment-analyst hiring claim.

## Question and study boundary

The research question is: **What responsibilities, named deliverables, work interfaces, qualifications, and decision boundaries appear in a verifiable sample of current U.S. biotechnology management vacancies?** The study includes roles whose described work is directly relevant to biotechnology, including relevant scientific-service and strategy positions, while retaining seven less-direct vendor, software, CRO, or consulting positions only as a separately labeled comparison set. The seven adjacent positions are excluded from every count below. Physician-led clinical leadership roles and pages without a verifiable current U.S. application opportunity were excluded.

The [U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics profile of natural sciences managers](https://www.bls.gov/OOH/management/natural-sciences-managers.htm) describes a broader occupation spanning life sciences and other natural-science fields. It gives useful context for planning, budgets, reports, and research coordination, but its occupation-wide employment or education data were not added to the biotech vacancy sample.

## Method

### Sampling, verification, and deduplication

The United States was the predeclared research geography. Researchers searched publicly accessible employer-hosted Greenhouse and Lever requisitions for program, project, clinical-operations, product, business-development, alliance, strategy, commercial, regulatory, and quality roles. A direct record needed an individual requisition page, a U.S. workplace or U.S. eligibility stated on the page, substantive biotechnology work, and a visible application action. A reviewer independently checked the candidate pages. Five Greenhouse requisitions whose initial public view failed were recovered by an indexed query of the same individual job; two Lever posts without reliable individual application read-back were held rather than counted. No application was submitted.

The source ledger records each source ID, employer, title, individual URL, U.S. location, 10 October retrieval date, application indicator, deduplication key, short supporting excerpt, title discrepancy, and inclusion decision. Deduplication used the employer and requisition identity, with title and location as checks. The resulting **102 direct source IDs are unique** and match the coded Role Requirements Matrix. Two Xaira requisitions—[V037](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/xairatherapeutics/jobs/5258559007) and [V385](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/xairatherapeutics/jobs/5205076007?gh_src=fdd34a237us)—are distinct jobs, but correlated observations from one employer.

The 102 direct pages were hosted on **89 Greenhouse and 13 Lever** employer boards, representing **69 employers**. The largest single-employer cluster was seven Dyne Therapeutics posts. All 102 direct ledger records say that the original posting date was not stated on the retrieved page. “Current” therefore refers only to a visible individual application action on the verification date; it does not establish posting age, number of open seats, or whether a role stayed open later.

### Coding rules and denominators

One requisition is the unit of analysis. The study coded only explicit responsibilities, personally assigned work products, stated qualification evidence, named tools, recurring work rhythms, working counterparts, and scoped authority. A post can carry multiple codes, but contributes only once to a particular code. Blank means “unstated or outside this bounded taxonomy,” never “the task or skill is absent.” The complete source register appears in the appendix.

For an output, the posting must assign the person to create, prepare, develop, maintain, or directly report a **named deliverable**. Merely reviewing, monitoring, contributing general input, or working near another function does not transfer its deliverable to the role. Thus a commercial launch plan is separate from an operational project schedule, and input to a regulatory submission is separate from producing or managing the submission document. For hard skills, the candidate-qualification text must support the code. A named tool must appear as a tool, not in an employer name or a staff title. Formal authority requires a personally assigned approval or execution decision, and remains limited to that named decision.

The denominator for the study is **102 direct requisitions**. The field-disclosure counts show where a category could be coded under those rules: responsibilities 102; named outputs 95; hard skills 81; observable behavior 95; named tools 41; cadence or lifecycle 41; working interfaces 99; authority 78; education 91; numeric experience threshold 94; explicit required-criterion wording 64; and explicit preferred-criterion wording 82. Counts within a field can overlap and do not sum to its disclosure denominator.

## Sample composition and role differences

| Direct career stratum | Requisitions in the 102-post sample | Illustrative employer post |
|---|---:|---|
| Program and project management | 31 | Vir research project management, [V399](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/virbiotechnologyinc/jobs/4720942005) |
| Clinical operations | 22 | Nurix senior clinical trial management, [V139](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/nurix/jobs/8843086002) |
| Strategy and commercial work | 16 | BridgeBio business operations, [V400](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/bridgebio/jobs/5183416007) |
| Business development and alliances | 14 | Xaira business development and alliance management, [V005](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/xairatherapeutics/jobs/5206108007) |
| Regulatory affairs | 9 | Adicet regulatory affairs management, [V218](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/adicettherapeuticsinc/jobs/5223277007) |
| Product management | 8 | Element bioinformatics product management, [V389](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/elementbiosciences/jobs/6135375004) |
| Quality operations | 1 | LOTTE quality assurance leadership, [V204](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/lottebiologicsusallc/jobs/5421753008) |
| Associate project support | 1 | Oruka CMC project support, [V268](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/oruka/jobs/5293846008) |

The composition is descriptive, not a ranking of U.S. career opportunities. In the coded sample, product management includes the [V389](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/elementbiosciences/jobs/6135375004) bioinformatics product role: its dominant responsibility is product direction and requirements, while a partner-facing licensing element is secondary. The single quality role and single support role cannot sustain broad conclusions about those career paths. The [V268](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/oruka/jobs/5293846008) associate post also should not be labeled a manager-level vacancy. Plant biotechnology, therapeutics, genomics, biomanufacturing, and specialist services all occur in this sample; their workflows are not identical.

### Stated responsibilities

| Explicitly assigned duty | Coded requisitions / 102 | Role boundary |
|---|---:|---|
| Integrated planning | 71 | Named program, project, study, launch, or territory plan or timeline |
| Operational risk or issue management | 52 | Identifies, mitigates, tracks, resolves, or escalates delivery risks or blockers |
| Budget or resource management | 50 | Personally works on budget, forecast, cost, capacity, or resources |
| Vendor or contract delivery | 25 | Manages supplier, CRO, CDMO, or vendor delivery or performance |
| Clinical study execution | 22 | Operational study or site planning, leadership, management, or oversight |
| Partnering and transactions | 20 | Strategic alliances, licensing, collaborations, or deals |
| Market, competitive, or portfolio strategy | 20 | Market or competitor analysis or strategic asset/portfolio prioritization |
| Commercial growth execution | 16 | Sales, new-business, GTM, launch, or revenue work |
| Product planning or launch | 12 | Product strategy, requirements, technical roadmap, or launch |
| Specialist regulatory strategy or filing work | 9 | Owns regulatory strategy or filing preparation/management |
| Regulatory timeline coordination | 3 | Coordinates submission milestones without claiming specialist ownership |

These are **coded assignments in the 102-post set**. For example, integrated planning occurs in 29 of 31 program/project posts and 21 of 22 clinical-operations posts, but the artifacts differ. A [V399](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/virbiotechnologyinc/jobs/4720942005) research program manager maintains project plans, risks and milestones; a [V401](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/bridgebio/jobs/5072941007) clinical trial manager works on site initiation and operational monitoring. Partnering and transactions occur in 13 of 14 business-development/alliance posts, illustrated by [V005](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/xairatherapeutics/jobs/5206108007). Product planning or launch is explicit in all eight product-management posts, including [V389](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/elementbiosciences/jobs/6135375004). Specialist regulatory strategy or filing work appears in all nine regulatory-affairs posts, but coordination with a regulatory team does not grant that specialist responsibility to another manager.

### Named deliverables

| Personally produced or maintained named output | Coded requisitions / 102 | Posts disclosing a coded named output |
|---|---:|---:|
| Operational plan or schedule | 44 | 95 |
| Status report, update, or dashboard | 28 | 95 |
| Strategic recommendation or decision material | 20 | 95 |
| Quantitative budget or forecast | 15 | 95 |
| Clinical study document | 15 | 95 |
| Technical product roadmap, requirements, or target profile | 10 | 95 |
| Business case or valuation model | 8 | 95 |
| Regulatory submission document | 8 | 95 |
| Prepared proposal or deal document | 8 | 95 |
| Commercial plan or account map | 8 | 95 |
| Risk, issue, decision, or RAID record | 7 | 95 |

The matrix deliberately distinguishes a produced artifact from participation in a process. Eight of nine regulatory-affairs posts assign an actual submission-document output; none of the 22 clinical-operations posts was coded with that output merely because clinical staff may supply information. Seven of eight product-management posts assign a technical roadmap or requirement. Six of 14 business-development/alliance posts assign a prepared proposal or deal document. Two commercial launch plans, [V116](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/tangotherapeutics/jobs/7986721003) and [V362](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/kardigan/jobs/5422741008), were classified as commercial plans rather than operational schedules; [V091](https://jobs.lever.co/rezolutebio/6f84deff-f13b-48a3-b420-0c53bf388577) is an operational PMO plan with tasks and variances. These distinctions prevent a generic “biotech manager” artifact list from obscuring who actually prepares which record.

### Skills, interfaces, tools, and decisions

Observable cross-functional alignment is explicit in **75 of 102** posts, stakeholder communication in **72**, meeting facilitation in **29**, negotiation in **14**, and judgment or prioritization in **14**. The behavior field is disclosed in **95** posts. These are action codes, not personality adjectives. Hard-skill evidence is disclosed in **81** posts; specific qualification codes include project/program methods (30), clinical operations (21), business-development/deal experience (15), and regulatory-affairs specialist experience (9). An employer's description of a duty does not automatically become a candidate qualification.

Named working interfaces are disclosed in **99** posts. External partners appear as assigned counterparts in **62**; commercial or sales teams in **28**; research and development in **25**; regulatory colleagues in **25**; clinical colleagues in **24**; finance in **23**; manufacturing or CMC in **20**; legal or intellectual-property colleagues in **12**; and health authorities in **8**. The last category is distinct from an external partner. A domain mentioned without an assigned interaction is not counted. The [V008](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/dendreon/jobs/4368750009) business-development post and [V401](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/bridgebio/jobs/5072941007) clinical-operations post illustrate different handoff networks.

Exact named tools appear in **41** posts: Smartsheet (25), Excel (17), MS Project (14), PowerPoint (11), EDC (6), CTMS (5), and eTMF (4) are the most visible. These counts reflect explicit text in this selected set, not universal software requirements. A work cadence or phase-to-phase lifecycle is explicitly described in **41** posts. The coded rhythms include daily (17), weekly (2), monthly (3), quarterly (1), and lifecycle (26); one post may state more than one rhythm. Travel, salary periods, forecast horizons, and prior experience were not coded as a work rhythm.

Authority signals are disclosed in **78** posts: owned accountability (27), leading work or a team (63), explicit escalation (27), and a personally scoped approval or execution decision (9). These codes overlap. A decision right is limited to the decision actually named in the post, such as approval of a quality record, invoice, or change order; it is not a general right to approve a clinical or regulatory outcome. The [V204](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/lottebiologicsusallc/jobs/5421753008) quality role, for example, names Quality approval actions. Designing a governance framework is not the same as personally holding all the decisions in that framework.

### Education and experience statements

The posts mention some education level in **91 of 102** cases and a numeric experience threshold in **94**. A bachelor's degree is mentioned in 69 posts and an advanced degree in 70, but “mentioned” does not mean “required.” Explicit criterion-specific required wording appears in 64 posts and preferred wording in 82. Within the narrow coded qualification types, 22 posts explicitly require a bachelor's degree, two explicitly require an advanced degree, 43 explicitly prefer an advanced degree, and four explicitly prefer a project certification. These are statements by particular employers in this sample, not a single qualification rule. The broad [BLS natural sciences manager profile](https://www.bls.gov/OOH/management/natural-sciences-managers.htm) describes related science education and prior scientific work for its wider occupation; it cannot override an individual biotech employer's stated criteria.

## Practical implications of the observed work

**Program and project management.** An authentic work example should translate a defined scientific or product objective into an operational plan, dependencies, a delivery-risk record, a resource assumption, and a decision-ready update. [V399](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/virbiotechnologyinc/jobs/4720942005) explicitly names plans, milestones, risks, assumptions, and dependencies. The project manager can coordinate, document and escalate; named scientific or quality decisions go to the designated function.

**Clinical operations.** A role example can use a fictional, non-patient study situation to practice site and vendor status, an operational study plan, issue handling, and escalation. [V401](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/bridgebio/jobs/5072941007) describes site initiation, monitoring and performance metrics. Clinical protocol content, patient decisions, and medical judgments remain with the qualified clinical team.

**Business development and alliances.** A useful case can prepare a partner brief, diligence questions, decision material, and an agreement handoff grounded in stated deal work. [V005](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/xairatherapeutics/jobs/5206108007) shows alliance responsibilities. Legal terms, scientific claims and transaction approvals require the employer's assigned specialists and decision makers.

**Strategy and commercial work.** The posts support market or portfolio analysis, forecast scenarios, launch planning and executive decisions, but each appears in a particular role. [V400](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/bridgebio/jobs/5183416007) names strategic analysis, while [V116](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/tangotherapeutics/jobs/7986721003) names commercialization planning. A valuation-related task in one of these posts does not establish a separate healthcare investment analyst vacancy stratum or justify a securities recommendation.

**Product management.** A product case can move from a user or scientific need to a technical requirement, roadmap decision and cross-functional release handoff. [V389](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/elementbiosciences/jobs/6135375004) and [V148](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/twistbioscience/jobs/7811823) illustrate different bioinformatics and protein-solutions product contexts. Evidence for product performance and external claims must be reviewed by the appropriate scientific and commercial owners.

**Regulatory and quality work.** A management case can practice a filing-timeline tracker or quality escalation record while preserving the distinct authority of the regulatory or quality function. [V079](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/nurix/jobs/8535319002) is a specialist regulatory-strategy example, and [V204](https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/lottebiologicsusallc/jobs/5421753008) is a quality approval example. The one quality post is a concrete source, not a basis for a broad quality-management frequency claim.

**Entrepreneurship and investment analysis.** Neither is a direct vacancy stratum in this 102-post matrix. Planning, partnering, market analysis and valuation can inform illustrative workplace scenarios, but these vacancies do not establish hiring demand or an occupational pathway for those two proposed options.

## Limitations

This is a **structured purposive sample**, not a probability sample, national employer census, or representative U.S. hiring survey. It covers public individual requisitions available through two applicant-tracking systems on one date. Employer clusters, including seven Dyne posts and distinct but related Xaira jobs, mean the 102 observations are not 102 independent signals of national demand. The sample is weighted toward director and executive titles, and its role families and biotechnology subsectors are uneven.

Every direct record lacked a verified original posting date on the retrieved page. A visible application action does not establish posting age, open headcount, hiring rate, later availability, or an employment outcome. Some employer pages contain inconsistent title wording. The admission audit held pages with uncertain U.S. workplace or individual application status and excluded stale redirects and physician-led clinical leadership from this general management analysis. Seven adjacent positions remain outside the direct denominator.

The coding key prioritizes explicit role language. Employers may omit routine duties, tools, cadence, authority or qualification detail. The 95-post bounded-output disclosure count means that seven direct posts have no output matching this particular taxonomy; it does not mean they produce nothing at work. Small strata, especially quality operations and associate project support, cannot support broad career claims. No count here measures national prevalence, future demand, salary, or placement probability. Vacancy text also cannot by itself establish recent regulatory or technology trends; those require a separate evidence corpus.

## Reproducibility and source register

The versioned study ledger retains each exact source URL, employer, role title, U.S. workplace, retrieval date, application observation, deduplication key, and a short supporting excerpt. The Role Requirements Matrix records the source IDs and evidence anchors for every positive code. To reproduce an aggregate, select only the 102 independently admitted direct source IDs; join each ID to its coded row; apply the bounded code definition; and count that code once per requisition. Report the 102-post sample denominator and, where applicable, the disclosed-field denominator. Do not merge adjacent or held positions into these counts. Pages may change or close after the 10 October check.

The appendix below links all **102** requisitions in the accepted direct corpus. Source titles are transcribed from the ledger; a few pages contain heading/body level discrepancies.
