**Resource type:** ats resume template
**Evidence geography:** United States
**Evidence scope:** A frozen structured purposive sample of 100 current United States vacancies from 91 employers plus an independent 24-source current-trend review with 17 sources in the 90-day primary window; the vacancy sample is not nationally representative.
**Accepted source SHA-256:** `86bb3aab93225722658cf4341a9e3d2daf48897f1c474284a08415b7920b0ae1`

An ATS-friendly resume is a truthful, readable record of relevant capability. It helps a parsing system extract the intended information and gives a human reviewer enough context to judge fit. This template is based on current United States role evidence for conversion copywriting. It cannot guarantee ranking, an interview or employment.

## ATS-readable principles

- Use one logical column and selectable text.
- Use conventional headings such as Professional Summary, Core Skills, Experience, Projects, Education and Tools.
- Keep the person, employer, title, location and dates in an unambiguous order.
- Use month and year when dates matter.
- Put important contact information in the main document body, not only in a header, footer or image.
- Use ordinary text labels instead of icons alone.
- Write abbreviations in full on first use when a recruiter may not know them.
- Mirror relevant vacancy language only when it accurately describes real experience.
- Support skills with work, projects, education or clearly labelled practice.
- Reopen the exported file and copy it into plain text to check reading order.
- Keep PDF and DOCX versions when the employer accepts both, and follow the requested format.

Avoid decorative rating bars, hidden keywords, copied vacancy text, unexplained tool lists, essential text inside images, multi-column application versions and claims produced by AI that the candidate cannot verify.

## Contact and header pattern

Use this order:

**First and last name**
**Target role family**
City and state or region | phone | professional email
LinkedIn profile | portfolio URL

The target role should describe the work, for example `Conversion Copywriter | Landing Pages | Lifecycle Email`. Do not use a vague label such as `Creative Professional` when a more specific truthful label is available.

Do not include sensitive personal data that is not required. Follow local norms and the employer's application instructions.

## Professional profile

Write three or four lines that connect:

- the target role;
- years or depth of relevant experience, if supported;
- the channels or problems handled;
- one or two distinctive capabilities; and
- the type of evidence or outcome the candidate can discuss.

A useful profile is specific without becoming a list of unsupported adjectives.

Weak profile:

> Results-driven creative professional passionate about compelling content and innovative solutions.

Stronger pattern:

> Conversion copywriter with experience developing landing pages and lifecycle email for subscription products. Builds message hierarchies from customer research and approved product evidence, partners with design and analytics, and uses controlled tests to improve clarity and downstream action.

Use the stronger pattern only when every statement is true for the candidate.

## Core skills and keyword bank

Select a short set that matches the target role and has supporting evidence elsewhere in the resume.

### Message and research skills

- audience and customer-language synthesis;
- offer and positioning development;
- value propositions and message hierarchy;
- objection handling and proof selection;
- claim review and source checking;
- brand voice adaptation; and
- cross-channel message consistency.

### Channel skills

- landing pages and website copy;
- lifecycle email and CRM messaging;
- subject lines, preview text and calls to action;
- forms, microcopy and error messages;
- campaign and paid-social copy;
- product or sales-support messages; and
- creative briefs and production handoffs.

### Experiment and evidence skills

- hypothesis and variant design;
- A/B and multivariate test collaboration;
- primary outcome and guardrail definition;
- conversion evidence interpretation;
- performance readouts and recommendations;
- analytics implementation checks; and
- test learning documentation.

### AI-assisted work

- bounded context preparation;
- AI-assisted ideation and structural variation;
- draft comparison and critique;
- factual and claim verification;
- privacy-aware tool use; and
- human review and escalation.

Do not paste the entire bank. Choose the terms that are relevant to the vacancy and defensible from actual experience.

## Experience and achievement structure

Use reverse chronological order for most applications. For each role, show:

**Role title | Employer | Location | Month Year–Month Year**

Then use three to six bullets for recent relevant roles. A useful bullet often follows this pattern:

**Action + message or system + audience or operating scope + measurable or observable consequence + verification context.**

Weak:

> Responsible for writing emails and landing pages.

Stronger:

> Rewrote the onboarding landing page and three-message activation sequence for a small-business software trial, using five customer-interview themes; the approved experiment increased first-project completion from 31% to 36% over a six-week comparison while complaint and unsubscribe guardrails remained within the team's thresholds.

The stronger example is useful because it names the work, audience, source, measured behavior, period and guardrails. It should never be copied as a candidate's own achievement.

When a reliable metric is unavailable, describe the scale, decision or quality improvement honestly:

> Consolidated conflicting product notes into a reviewed message map used by product marketing, design and lifecycle teams for one launch, resolving three unsupported claims before production.

Useful evidence units include conversion behavior, downstream qualification, time, volume, error reduction, customer complaints, deliverability, support demand, revenue or contribution where the candidate is authorized to disclose them. Do not force a percentage into every bullet.

## Projects and portfolio evidence

Projects are especially useful for career changers and early-career candidates. Label the context clearly:

- paid employment;
- freelance work;
- volunteer work;
- supervised study;
- personal project; or
- fictional practice case.

For each project, state the situation, supplied information, choices, finished assets, quality checks and learning. Remove confidential information and do not imply that a fictional brand, metric or result was real.

A conversion-copywriting portfolio may include:

- a customer-and-offer evidence brief;
- a message hierarchy;
- a landing page;
- a lifecycle email sequence;
- an experiment brief; and
- a performance readout using fictional or authorized data.

Show enough reasoning to make the work understandable, but do not publish private source material or internal review comments.

## Tools

List tools only when the candidate can explain how they were used. Grouping by purpose is often clearer than one long vendor list:

- Content and landing systems: the platforms actually used.
- CRM and lifecycle: the approved services actually used.
- Analytics and experimentation: the tools used to inspect configured evidence or collaborate on tests.
- Design and collaboration: the workspaces used for briefs, reviews and handoffs.
- AI assistance: only services the candidate used responsibly and can discuss.

Tool familiarity does not replace the professional capability. A reviewer should be able to connect each important tool to a project or role.

## Education and professional development

List the credential, provider or institution and completion date. Use the exact credential title. Do not present a short course as a degree, license or employer certification. Include relevant writing, marketing, experimentation, analytics, accessibility or responsible-AI learning when it supports the role.

Repeat the role pattern for prior relevant positions.

### Selected Projects

**Project name | Context label | Month Year**

### Education and Professional Development

**Credential | Provider or institution | Year**

### Additional Information

Include languages, relevant publications, professional associations or work authorization only when appropriate and truthful.

## Clearly fictional example

### Professional Summary

Conversion copywriter with four years of experience supporting subscription software and online education. Turns customer research and approved product information into landing pages, lifecycle email and testable message systems. Partners with design, product marketing and analytics, and uses AI assistance for bounded ideation and critique with human verification of every released claim.

### Core Skills

Landing pages | Lifecycle email | Offer messaging | Message hierarchy | Customer-language synthesis | A/B test briefs | Conversion readouts | Claim review | Editing | Cross-functional collaboration

### Professional Experience

**Conversion Copywriter | Northstar Learning Labs | Remote, United States | March 2024–Present**

- Built the message hierarchy and copy for a professional-course landing page using approved learner interviews, curriculum facts and pricing terms; the reviewed launch page reduced unanswered eligibility questions received by support during its first month.
- Reworked a five-message onboarding sequence around the learner's next useful action, then partnered with analytics on an approved six-week test; course-start rate increased from 42% to 47% while unsubscribe rate remained within the established guardrail.
- Created a claim inventory linking outcome statements, testimonials and offer conditions to approved sources, helping the launch team remove four unsupported phrases before production.
- Used an approved AI service to generate structural alternatives and run clarity checks from sanitized inputs; documented human edits, sources and final approval for every released asset.
- Wrote monthly learning notes that separated observed movement, possible explanations and the next test, preventing the team from treating one directional result as causal proof.

**Content and Lifecycle Specialist | HarborDesk Software | Austin, Texas | June 2022–February 2024**

- Wrote landing-page, in-product and email copy for a small-business scheduling product across trial, activation and renewal journeys.
- Consolidated findings from nine authorized customer interviews into an objection map used by product marketing, lifecycle and sales enablement.
- Developed two meaningfully different trial-recovery email approaches around a written hypothesis; the approved test improved return-to-product clicks, while no reliable difference appeared in completed setup, leading the team to investigate product friction.
- Partnered with design to revise form labels, error messages and next-step copy after usability reviews, reducing repeated support questions about account setup.

### Selected Project

**Fictional SaaS Conversion Case | Independent portfolio practice | August 2026**

- Created an evidence brief, offer definition, message hierarchy, landing page, three-message lifecycle sequence and experiment brief for a fictional project-planning product.
- Used only fictional inputs supplied in the case and labelled all metrics as practice data.
- Documented why one urgency claim was rejected, how the primary outcome was defined and what evidence would be required before a production recommendation.

## Tailoring checklist

- Confirm the target title and role family.
- Extract the vacancy's most decision-relevant duties, outputs, skills and tools.
- Map each requirement to exact truthful resume evidence.
- Mark requirements unsupported when no evidence exists.
- Move the strongest relevant evidence into the first half of the document.
- Use recognizable vacancy terminology only where accurate.
- Add scope, consequence and verification context to weak bullets.
- Remove irrelevant tools, generic adjectives and repeated responsibilities.
- Check employer names, titles, locations and dates against other application records.
- Protect confidential, personal and customer information.
- Reopen the exported file and test plain-text reading order.
- Ask a trusted reviewer to compare the final resume with the vacancy.

## Common failure patterns

- Keyword stuffing without supporting evidence.
- A creative layout that destroys reading order.
- A summary that could describe any writer.
- Bullets that list duties without scope or consequence.
- Metrics with no baseline, period, denominator or verification context.
- Treating clicks or open rate as proof of business impact.
- Listing AI tools without explaining responsible use or human review.
- Copying fictional achievements, employer text or another person's portfolio.
- Exposing confidential campaign, customer or product information.
- Letting AI invent employers, dates, credentials, tools, outcomes or job scope.
- Submitting without reopening the export.

## Safe AI review prompt

Use only an approved or personally trusted service and remove private details.

*Act as a resume evidence auditor. Compare the supplied vacancy with the supplied resume. Extract the ten most decision-relevant requirements. Map each requirement to exact resume evidence and label the match Strong, Partial or Unsupported. Identify parsing risks, vague claims, unexplained tools, inconsistent dates and bullets without a clear contribution or verification context. Suggest clearer wording only when it preserves the original facts. Never invent employers, dates, responsibilities, credentials, tools, metrics or outcomes. Return a table with Requirement, Existing Evidence, Rating, Safe Revision and Verification Needed.*

Before using this prompt, supply the vacancy and a sanitized copy of the real resume. Verify every suggested change against original records.

## Quick reference

The strongest resume is not the one with the most keywords. It is the one a system can parse, a person can understand and the candidate can defend with truthful examples. Structure makes the evidence visible; it does not create evidence that is not there.
