## Model Job Description: Agricultural Commodity Trade Coordinator

This evidence-derived model describes an entry-to-practitioner role that supports the commercial and physical execution of agricultural commodity trades. It is a reusable description for local adaptation, **not a live vacancy or a universal employer policy**. The worksite examples below come from separately reviewed vacancies in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Singapore. No one posting contains every duty, tool or contact listed here.

## Role purpose

Keep an authorized agricultural commodity transaction accurate and moving from agreed trade terms through delivery, documents and settlement. The coordinator checks source records, tracks handoffs, makes discrepancies visible and obtains decisions from the person who holds the relevant authority. Depending on the employer, the role may support grain, oilseeds, vegetable oils, feed ingredients or another specified agricultural product; the product, worksite and operating process must be named in the local version.

## Core responsibilities and observable outputs

- **Maintain a dated market record where assigned.** Record the commodity, location, crop or delivery period, source and time of a price or supply-demand observation. Distinguish a published estimate from an actual transaction or confirmed inventory figure. Output: a short market note or an update to an approved bid/position record. Daily bid-sheet updates appear in [U.S. Bunge merchandising roles](https://jobs.bunge.com/job/Merchandiser-Warren%2C-IL/1428884933/); market statistics and position reconciliation appear in [UK Bunge Junior Trade Support](https://jobs.bunge.com/job/Junior-Trade-Support/1443833333/). Neither example makes forecasting a universal coordinator duty.
- **Check and record the trade.** Confirm commodity, quantity, grade or quality specification, delivery location and period, price or pricing basis, counterparty and the required internal approval against the authoritative trade record. Enter or update only the fields assigned to the role, preserve changes and flag conflicting terms. Output: an accurate contract or transaction register and a traceable change record. [Canadian Cargill trade execution](https://careers.cargill.com/en/job/winnipeg/trade-execution-specialist/23251/101753781584), [Canadian Cargill customer service](https://careers.cargill.com/en/job/clavet/customer-service-representative/23251/100493762768) and the [UK Wynnstay trainee posting](https://wynnstay.jobs.people-first.com/jobs/details/recruitment%2Fjobdetails%2Fd62e1452-7732-4937-b9c7-19d244331040) show distinct execution and handoff tasks.
- **Coordinate assigned physical handoffs.** Compare planned quantity and timing with available inventory, storage, transport, loading or delivery information. Send a changed date, grade or quantity to the relevant commercial and logistics owners before a downstream document is finalized. Output: a movement tracker, delivery schedule or handoff log. [UK ForFarmers planning](https://www.workingatforfarmers.co.uk/vacancies/planner), [Canadian Cargill trade execution](https://careers.cargill.com/en/job/winnipeg/trade-execution-specialist/23251/101753781584) and [Singapore COFCO freight assistance](https://careers.cofcointernational.com/job/Singapore-Freight-Trading-Assistant-Sing/1365696657/) illustrate different physical interfaces; they do not imply the same vessel or port authority.
- **Prepare and check assigned documents.** Match shipment instructions, quality or weight evidence, invoices and other required records to the approved contract and current movement status. Keep document versions and deadlines visible; route discrepancies to the document owner, bank-facing colleague, credit owner or legal specialist as appropriate. Output: a document-consistency checklist and an exception record. [Singapore Agrocorp operations](https://agrocorpinternational.teamtailor.com/jobs/8308307-operation-executive-trade-support) shows shipping-document work checked against letter-of-credit (L/C) terms; [U.S. LDC domestic execution](https://www.ldc.com/careers/join-ldc/job-details/?id=2947b641-614c-4625-9dc6-9db8964d42f2) shows contract, invoice and receivable/payable discrepancy work in a cotton role.
- **Reconcile settlement and payment records where assigned.** Compare approved trade terms, delivered quantity, invoice, payment or receivable status and accounting entries. Explain a mismatch with source references; do not silently overwrite the source record. Output: a reconciliation note with an owner, deadline and resolution evidence. [U.S. Topflight Grain Originator](https://jobs.growmark.com/fssystem/job/Lincoln-Grain-Originator-Topflight-Grain-Cooperative-Lincoln%2C-IL-IL-62656/1394653100/) and [Canadian Bunge customer account work](https://jobs.bunge.com/job/Canora-Customer-Account-Representative-SK-S0A-0L0/1431596333/) include payment or account interfaces, with different commercial authority.
- **Close the loop on exceptions.** Record what differs, the source records compared, the decision required, the authorized decision owner, the next deadline and proof that the outcome reached affected teams. Output: an exception brief and handoff log. Escalate promptly when a delay could affect loading, delivery, credit, documents or settlement.

An employer may assign only part of this workflow. A market note, vessel tracker, L/C checklist and settlement reconciliation should appear in a local job description only when that role actually owns those outputs.

## Skills and work behaviors

### Technical skills for the bounded coordinator role

- Read the employer's commodity and quality specifications, units, dates and location terms, and compare them with a trade or shipment record.
- Perform accurate quantity, price, basis and invoice arithmetic to the extent used in the assigned workflow; preserve the source of each figure.
- Reconcile contract, movement, inventory, document and payment fields without conflating a planned, confirmed and settled value.
- Explain the sequence of a physical handoff and identify which missing fact prevents the next step.
- Record the difference between a market observation, an estimate, a scenario and an approved commercial decision.
- Follow local approval, record-retention, confidentiality and exception-escalation procedures.

Knowledge of [Incoterms in a UK flour-buying role](https://solina.wd502.myworkdayjobs.com/sol_ext_car/job/biggleswade/procurement-category-buyer---flour_r-890), [GAFTA/FOSFA and ICC L/C rules in Singapore Agrocorp operations](https://agrocorpinternational.teamtailor.com/jobs/8308307-operation-executive-trade-support), or [FOSFA/PORAM and L/C work in Singapore COFCO vegetable-oil operations](https://careers.cofcointernational.com/job/Singapore-Operations-Executive-Sing/1370763457/) is source and product specific. Add a named standard to a local requirement only after checking the actual role and its required-versus-preferred wording. Apply the employer's licensed, current text; this model does not reproduce contract or rule clauses.

### Observable collaboration skills

- Ask a precise question when a grade, unit, date, counterparty or approval is missing.
- Tell the relevant trader, planner, document owner or accountant what changed, when it changed and which record proves it.
- Check names, figures, units and versions before releasing a handoff.
- Prioritize an exception by its operational deadline and consequence, and state uncertainty rather than filling a gap with a guess.
- Give an authorized decision maker a concise choice-ready brief: the discrepancy, evidence, deadline and people affected.

These are behaviors a supervisor can observe in a transaction file or handoff, rather than personality traits.

## Tools and records

The local employer names its approved spreadsheet, trade or enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, document store, inventory or logistics tracker, communication channel and market-data access. The coordinator uses the authoritative system for each record and preserves a version trail. No specific vendor product is a universal requirement across the four country samples. For example, [Canadian Cargill customer service](https://careers.cargill.com/en/job/clavet/customer-service-representative/23251/100493762768), [UK Bunge Junior Trade Support](https://jobs.bunge.com/job/Junior-Trade-Support/1443833333/) and [Singapore COFCO freight assistance](https://careers.cofcointernational.com/job/Singapore-Freight-Trading-Assistant-Sing/1365696657/) name different office or specialist tool needs.

If an employer permits drafting or comparison assisted by artificial intelligence (AI), a person checks every source, number, document version and proposed approval route before using the result. AI output is not an authoritative trade, bank or risk instruction.

## Level and experience

The model can be adapted for a supported entry role or a practitioner who owns a defined transaction queue. At entry level, the person assembles and checks records, asks for missing facts and routes proposed changes. At practitioner level, the person may manage assigned records and routine handoffs within written limits, while still escalating decisions outside those limits. A senior merchant, port operations lead, bank-finance specialist, credit manager or regulated broker is a different role with different authority.

Set any minimum years of experience, qualification, language, work authorization and required-versus-preferred skill tier from the **specific current local vacancy and employer policy**. The local employer must state any actual years-of-experience minimum and required-versus-preferred criteria for the position; this model supplies no universal numerical minimum. A [UK trainee agricultural trader](https://wynnstay.jobs.people-first.com/jobs/details/recruitment%2Fjobdetails%2Fd62e1452-7732-4937-b9c7-19d244331040), [Canadian trade execution specialist](https://careers.cargill.com/en/job/winnipeg/trade-execution-specialist/23251/101753781584) and [Singapore structured-finance specialist](https://jobs.chsinc.com/job/singapore/senior-trade-structured-finance-specialist-apac/34006/101368005568) must not be assigned one shared experience threshold.

## Interfaces, authority and escalation

The local workflow may involve producers or customers, a trader or originator, quality and warehouse staff, transport or port teams, execution colleagues, accounting and credit. Banks, surveyors, customs authorities or brokers enter only when the assigned trade and local role require them. For each handoff, identify who supplies the fact, who checks it, who can change a commercial term and who approves an exception.

The coordinator may prepare, check, enter, reconcile, communicate and escalate within assigned limits. Unless the employer explicitly delegates and controls it, the coordinator does **not** sign or amend a legal contract, change an agreed price or delivery term, set a credit limit, accept an L/C discrepancy on a bank's behalf, choose a financing product, approve a physical hedge or place a client futures/options order. [Canadian Bunge merchandising](https://jobs.bunge.com/job/Montreal-Merchandiser-Queb-H3C-3R5/1431590933/), [Singapore CHS structured finance](https://jobs.chsinc.com/job/singapore/senior-trade-structured-finance-specialist-apac/34006/101368005568) and [UK agricultural derivatives brokerage](https://www.marex.com/careers/career-opportunities/c3433cb9dd8401-agricultural-otc-sales-emea--associate-vp) illustrate senior or specialist decisions that should not be folded into this baseline role.

Escalate a discrepancy before the decision deadline, with the original and conflicting records, a clear impact statement and the named decision owner. The local employer sets monetary limits, signatures, substitution rules, retention periods and emergency contacts.

## Cadence to set locally

- **Daily, if assigned:** review the active queue, reconcile changes and circulate approved position or bid records. Daily bid-sheet updates are explicit in [U.S. Bunge merchandising](https://jobs.bunge.com/job/Merchandiser-Warren%2C-IL/1428884933/); daily position reconciliation is explicit in [UK Bunge Junior Trade Support](https://jobs.bunge.com/job/Junior-Trade-Support/1443833333/).
- **Weekly, if assigned:** summarize open exceptions or market observations for the responsible desk. Weekly insights are explicit in a [Singapore cotton-analyst role](https://www.randstad.com.sg/jobs/senior-trading-analyst-cotton_singapore_47554867/), which is an analytical specialist rather than a coordinator baseline.
- **Monthly, if assigned:** support an authorized control close by reconciling records and routing unresolved items. Monthly profit and loss (P&L) or close work appears in [UK Bunge Junior Trade Support](https://jobs.bunge.com/job/Junior-Trade-Support/1443833333/) and [Singapore LDC operational control](https://www.ldc.com/careers/join-ldc/job-details/?id=69f22001-90a3-4272-9e0f-e826be94fb96).
- **Event driven:** act when a trade is confirmed, a grade or quantity changes, a delivery or vessel date moves, a document fails a check, a credit hold appears or settlement differs. Use the deadline and escalation route defined for that event.

These are source-bound examples, not a single timetable imposed on every employer. A vessel lifecycle, harvest overtime period or internship duration is not a general daily, weekly or monthly cadence.

## Reusable local job-description model

Use the following compact model after completing the adaptation checklist. Keep only duties actually assigned to the position.

> **Role:** Agricultural Commodity Trade Coordinator, with the employer's local title and worksite.
> **Purpose:** Maintain accurate approved trade, movement, document and settlement records for the named agricultural products; coordinate assigned handoffs and escalate exceptions to authorized owners.
> **Assigned outputs:** A dated transaction record, relevant movement or document tracker, and an exception or reconciliation note, as specified by the employer.
> **Core work:** Check agreed terms and approvals; update assigned systems; compare physical and document status; communicate changes; preserve evidence and deadlines.
> **Skills and systems:** Commodity and quality reading, arithmetic, record reconciliation, precise handoffs, and the locally approved systems and standards.
> **Authority:** Prepare, check and communicate within written limits; route price, contract, credit, bank, hedge and regulated decisions to their designated owners.
> **Success evidence:** Complete, timely and traceable records; discrepancies identified before the next irreversible handoff; decisions attributed to the authorized person.

## Local adaptation checklist

1. Name the worksite, commodity and product form; confirm that the vacancy is current for that jurisdiction.
2. Separate the coordinator's assigned tasks from merchant, port, bank, credit, risk and brokerage decisions.
3. Identify each actual output, authoritative system, record owner and deadline; remove unused outputs from the model.
4. Confirm commodity units, quality scheme, delivery terms, applicable contract or bank standards, and whether each is required or preferred in this specific role.
5. Set experience, qualifications and training from the actual employer requirement; do not infer a numerical threshold from a role-family synthesis.
6. Write the approval limits, escalation contacts and backup route for price, contract, quality, logistics, credit, document and settlement exceptions.
7. Set daily, weekly, monthly and event duties only where the local workflow assigns them; distinguish reporting cadence from seasonal workload or internship length.
8. Review the final description with the hiring manager, operations owner and applicable compliance or legal owner before posting or using it as an employee procedure.

## Evidence and use limits

The role model draws on the [four-market vacancy research report](https://mtfinstitute.com/insights/agricultural-commodity-trade-four-markets-vacancy-requirements-2026/) and its country-labelled employer sources. That research reviewed 84 principal U.S., 10 Canadian, 11 UK and 10 Singapore advertisements as separate purposive worksite groups in October 2026. The counts describe the reviewed inventory, not national or worldwide hiring prevalence. The separate [current-changes article](https://mtfinstitute.com/insights/agricultural-commodity-trade-four-markets-changes-2026/) gives dated market and operating context; it does not show that every coordinator must use a particular forecast, satellite system, exchange or AI tool.
